The one big stress kills all the other little ones and you have a strange sort of focus and peace as a result. Having been the caregiver in my husband's serious illness, from which he emerged victorious, and after which we said "We can do anything together," I identify. <br /><br />It is a lot like being a passenger in a serious car accident. Not much you can do but be a cheerleader and try to take care of yourself. I had a good friend who said to me, when my husband was in L'Hopital Pitie Salpetriere for a month, "You are in the most beautiful city in the world.
