When I first came to Spain, dragged here by my older retired parents who wanted their only child with them instead of halfway around the world, I was resentful. I wanted to leave and hated Spain. I understood this culture, because my family formed part of it, but I was seen as an outsider because I hadn't grown up here. I wanted to go back to my beloved Boston, period.

Over the years, I have realized it doesn't matter. Wherever we are, we should just enjoy the ride. Even if we're stressed out with life-changing experiences, we should take one minute to look around, see where we are, and accept it. We are alive. Every sight, every smell, every sound, every feeling, even pain, should be gloried in. We're experiencing them, and we are where we are, because we're alive. And that's the most important fact.

The problem is, we have to wait until we're at least in our middle years to realize that, and some people never end up understanding it. It doesn't matter where we live. It matters that we live.Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14249273119777270679noreply@blogger.com
