Among the expat community here in Norway, we were pretty shocked, and we cite that case (to other expats who ask such questions in our Facebook groups) as an example of crazy Norwegian bureaucracy in action. Any time a person manages to contact the Foreign Department, she can expect to get different answers to her questions, depending on who she talks to, because the laws are unclear or depend on location (EU, etc). Far too much uncertainty.

There is a push to allow dual citizenship in Norway, and even Norwegians are very much for it, but I don't see a lot happening.Stratosphearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11807573679626711456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2424131704277823220.post-38805581920319580872015-05-28T07:41:00.258+02:002015-05-28T07:41:00.258+02:00@Christophe, thanks for link. Military service is another one that some countries require. So it's important to understand what those obligations are in order to make an informed decision. That seems reasonable.

I used to think it would be nice to have dual citizenship. No more, FATCA made that clear. Citizenship gives you rights, but it also gives you obligations. One set of obligations is quite enough, thank you!Sallynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2424131704277823220.post-70592200506132941382015-05-14T19:41:16.451+02:002015-05-14T19:41:16.451+02:00Hi Victoria,
